Manitoba Motocross Association: Race Report from Poplar Grove Raceway, Killarney

Report and Photos by Doug Engstrom

The Foote Families Poplar Grove Raceway in Killarney rolled out the welcome mat for round 2 of the MMA Fall Provincial Championship brought to you by Royal Distributing.

After being close on several occasions Jessa Champagne captures her first overall of the season in the Little Ladies class. Champagne’s 1-1 day topped Stefani and Morgan Blaquiere who traded second and third place finishes.

A week after turning a fast lap quicker than the 65cc 10-11 class leader, Cole DeKoninck dominated the 65cc 7-9 class once again at Killarney.

Zach Gibson was the most consistent rider in the 85 cc 7-11 class with 5-5 finishes, good for fifth overall.

Lawrence Hamm found himself in the middle of some great battles in the Vet Master and 40+ classes, finishing third overall in both. Wonder how many high school mx’ers would suspect that their school boards superintendent could school them on the track as well?

Casey Peters put in 3-6 finishes in the MX-2 Beginner class for second overall.

Josh Bell grabbed his first overall of the season in the 65cc 10-11 class with a 3-1 day. Brett Foster (3-3) and Tanner Garnham (4-3) round out the podium.

Nathan Regier continues to triple class it each week racing the MX-2 and MX-3 Junior classes as well as the Youth B class. Regier took the MX-2 Junior overall along with a third overall in the Youth B and fifth overall in MX-3 Junior.

Kyle Cyr had a strong day in the MX-2 Intermediate class with a 2-3 ride for third overall.

After failing to secure a Spring Provincial title it appears Westside Honda’s Adam Pfeiffer is back on track and taking care of business so far this fall. Pfeiffer took both Pro overalls at Killarney and added to his early series points lead in both classes.

The 40+ B class was a model of consistency with every racer in the top five repeating their moto finishes. Len Van Der Meer’s 2-2 finishes gave him the second step on the podium.

The MX-1 Beginner class had some of the tightest battles of the day with only three points separating the top four. Brett Gaudry with a 4-1 day took the overall.

The recently engaged Charity Schmidt put in a 1-2 day in Killarney to take the Ladies class overall ahead of Bev Bryce-Leger and Lauren Gilmore.

1-2 moto scores led Jake Klippenstein to victory in the MX-1 Junior class.

Hunter Sexton topped a 50cc 4-6 podium that also included Adam Wiebe and Radek Unrau.

Rio Stoesz took the 85cc 12-16 class with 1-1 finishes. In the Supermini class Stoesz managed to grab a moto from Josh Pfrimmer and his 1-2 day gave him second overall.

Aaron Pfrimmer is finding the Gregscustom.com RMZ450 to be a tough transition, not tough enough to keep him from winning moto’s however. Pfrimmer took the Youth class Victory when his 2-1 scores bested the 1-2 finishes of Westside Honda’s Eddie Anderson.

Lindsay Masse appears to be getting stronger each week as the season progresses. Masse put in another 1-1 day in the MX-1 Intermediate class to take the overall ahead of Chris Plett and Braden Jonsson.

Well if there’s anyone qualified to take to the air it would be airline pilot Troy Dumka. A Vet Junior overall combined with a fifth place overall in the 25+ class was Dumka’s day in Killarney.

Nathan Williamson charged hard to second overall in the 50cc 7-8 class.

See you at the races…
