Manitoba Motocross Association: Race Report from Poplar Grove Raceway, Killarney

Report and Photos by Doug Engstrom

Poplar Grove Raceway in Killarney was the site of the penultimate round of the MMA Fall Provincial Championships brought to you by Royal Distributing.

Adam Wiebe prepares to head out for his second 50cc 4-6 class moto under some watchful eyes. Wiebe picked up the moto win and his 2-1 day took the overall.

After waiting patiently for Transcanada Motorsports to get him his new bike, Dylan Wiebe and his 2009 KX250F made their debut in the Youth B and MX-2 Junior classes. Wiebe parlayed a Youth B holeshot into a third place finish in the first moto on his way to a pair of ninth place finishes overall.

Jesse Nikkel has made the switch from a 250 to a 450 and really seems to like his new ride. Nikkel has shown flashes of exceptional speed and should be an exciting rider to watch in 2009. Nikkel went 4-2 for second overall at Killarney.

Adam Saban was a different face in the Youth class top five this week. Saban put in 4-5 finishes for fourth overall.

The raceday is always more lively when FXR MX’s Aaron Wiebe is around. Wiebe picked up fifth overall in the Vet Master class to go with his seventh place finish in the MX-1 Pro class.

Consistency was the name of the game for Tye Beischer at Killarney. Sixth place finishes in both 50cc 7-8 motos gave him sixth overall.

A strong second moto helped Dan Devloo grab the last spot on the box in the Vet Junior class. Devloo posted 7-3 finishes for third overall.

Lane Louttit scored a sixth place finish in the 85cc 12-16 class with 5-6 moto scores. Louttit then hopped on his McKellar racing backed KX100 for a top five Supermini finish going 4-5 for fifth overall.

Garrett Graboweski rebounded after a horrific crash a week ago left him covered in tire prints and track rash. Graboweski picked up top five finishes in both the MX-1 and MX-2 Intermediate classes.

With a bunch of help from Reg’s 4 Seasons and Northstar Spraying, Scott Unrau left Killarney with a moto win and second overall in the 25+ class to go with his fourth place overall finish in the MX-2 Pro class.

It was fours all around for Caleb Van Der Meer in the 85cc 7-11 class. Van Der Meer went 4-4 for fourth overall.

Charity Shiskoski finished on the second step of the podium in the Ladies class after a 2-2 day.

Dylan Williamson found himself on the 65cc 10-11 class podium after 4-3 finishes gave him third overall.

In the tumultuous MX-2 Beginner class; Skyler Thomas posted a 4-6 day taking third overall.

Bryce Sexton narrowly missed a top five finish in the 65cc 7-9 class taking sixth overall with 7-5 moto scores.

See you at the races…
